Routine Routine Routine!

Getting aurora into a routine was one of the most important things to me. I am an organised person and it made me feel disorganised and I hate not being able to plan my day.

With children they can never be like clock work as they’re little people after all, so I like to keep her routine fairly relaxed, just with the day structured. Aurora went through phases in the first year of what time she would wake up in the mornings, and how many naps she would have in the day. I found that before 11/12 months, her routine would never be written in stone, but when she reached this point it became much more easy to predict what she was going to do. It’s taken me the best part of a year but aurora is now in a routine that works best for us.

8:30/9am she wakes up and has a bottle

9:30 has breakfast

10-12:30 we have play time. She usually does a baby class every morning between these times. I think this is really important as it encourages her confidence , imagination and social skills. She loves going to these classes as she’s such a people person, she loves being around other babies 👶🏽

12:30 lunch

1:30/2-3:20/4 nap time

6pm tea time

7pm bath time

7:30/8 story time and bed

I’m super lucky that aurora sleeps 12 hours at night and loves sleeping in! I found that it really helped having her room cool and airy, and also using black out blinds.

Before this point the hardest thing was feeling like I had to get to bed early in case she happened to wake up. One of the downsides of breastfeeding I found, was that she would randomly wake up some nights, as she wanted to feed on me but it was really just about comfort! So in case this happened, I felt like I had to get to bed otherwise I’d be tired. Now she’s in this routine I can do things knowing what time she’ll be waking up, and that it’s unlikely she will wake (unless she’s poorly😷).

Setting a routine can be full of just blood sweat and tears for mums, If you’re a new mum starting out at this I would definitely say be patient, try and give baby lots of stimulation in the day and tire them out, so they’re happy to have good sleeps and just be consistent with it. You’ll get there ☺️

Love H xx
