I recently took Aurora to visit grace in Barcelona whilst she is modelling out there. We stayed at the W, I love these hotels as they tend to be super accommodating, this one was quite a trendy one for youngsters but there were other children there and Aurora loved people watching and the pool, so whilst being there it was relatively relaxed!
My routine over there with her was more relaxed than I am over here, she is great because she will sleep in her pram so she had her naps around the pool/on the go so that I didn’t have to be restricted with my day, and it was a great time to get in my sunbathing hours! At night time I let her stay up with us whilst we went for dinner and sometime during it she fell asleep in her pram for the night. Every child is different and some aren’t great at sleeping in their pram etc, but from my experience my advice is be as laid back as you possibly can and you will tend to find that it rubs off on them too!
I travelled as light as I possibly could as I only had one case! For Aurora I did take her pram, but did without her car seat and any travel cot. I made sure the hotel provided a cot. I also chose the hotel because it was really easy with her, the pool area was really relaxed with plenty of beds and umbrellas for shade, and same with the beach whichwas literally a 1 minute walk from the hotel. I did bring a sling for her in case, as we planned to go see some sights, but didn’t end up using it, and brought 2 tins of formula and a load of bottles and to sterilise them I simply used the kettle in the room. Apart from her clothes and some medical stuff thats all I brought for her and it worked out well.
Aurora sleeps better in the dark like many babies, as I have her room blacked out at home I always worry she won’t go to sleep at night in the light, but the hotel did have blacked out curtains which is always something useful to find out, and if not you can get great travel black out blinds, mother care sell them.
I did try the popular ‘sun snooze’ cover for prams to shelter them from the sun, and its supposed to black out the pram for them a bit but never used it as I thought the material was really heavy and she was too hot when I put it on, I obviously already had her in the shade and it was better allowing the breeze at her. Something I absolutely would recommend though to help them sleep in the heat outside is this portable travel fan that clips onto the pram and is battery operated. It was a god send at keeping her cool and comfortable, not just in the day but alsoat night when the breeze died down and it got more humid.
just try keeping it relaxed and simple!
Love H xx
